The Senses will grab your attention, and help your child to gain deeper understanding into the development of the five senses. These books are beautifully crafted and are full of interesting facts about creatures, insects and human beings. Come learn about why the senses of sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell are so important to living things around the world. I became intrigued, as I read The Senses, about all the amazing factors that come into play with a single sense. Natural History: Origins is a virtual textbook enrapturing your eyes with beautiful graphics and eloquent words. It will guide you through five chapters. This iBook is primarily for intermediate to high school levelled students. Come learn about our spectacular Earth!. — Victoria Woelders (Canada) Google Certified Educator * Tech Enthusiast * Teacher * Canadian * Mom * – Apps & Digital Literacy Resources
The Senses: Great introduction to the structure and function of human senses. Highly interactive and visually engaging. Origins:This is a great resource for high school (and middle school) students learning about origins of the universe and our earth. Interactive and visually appealing — Julie Willcott (USA) Apple Distingushed Educator, STEM Educator. 1:1 iPads. iTunes U & iBooks Author
I love the graphics and interactive media in both - very appealing to the eye and helps understand the concepts covered. — Orly Rachamim (Canada) Elementary Technology Integrator, OCT, M.Ed student – passionate and curious about #edtech, always ready to share and continue learning!
I am impressed. The senses is an exceptional digital text that is an exemplar of quality multitouch books. This multitouch book covers in detail the five human senses, vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Every chapter contains stunning photos and graphics that are used to support and enhance the concepts outlined in the text. The advantage of a multitouch book is the authors do not have to rely on image alone to convey meaning. One of my favourite features of The Senses are the incredible interactive widgets that have been developed. I was blown away by their quality and the level of interaction provided. These widgets help to develop understanding of concepts through the use of quality graphics, animation, sound and text. I believe these widgets are very engaging and provide a significant incentive to encourage students to explore the text. The widgets vary in interactivity but some of the stand outs include a colour mixer to help students explore the three primary colours, an incredible animation that explains the functioning of the eye and a sound widget that lets you explore the effect of sound played at different frequencies on the functioning of the ear. I really enjoyed reading this digital text and particularly liked the focus on animal senses at the end of each chapter. — Steve Papp (Australia) Apple Distinguished Educator, Principal Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre
The Senses is a interactive digital book which offers a different approaching to a textbook, not because its own way of showing is revolutionary. Neither because there are extremely complex animations nor because it includes great quality videos filmed in the deepest pats of human body as BBC does. What this book does offer is a compendium of precise information, achievable, aimed at a novice audience who finds to access to the knowledge in a simple way, visually, with the necessary text, reaching to it by the curiosity hand -its great allied- it’s a very -visually- nice book, as I always say in my mantra: ´continent is part of the content´. Those ones are its greatest points. Maybe its greatest value of this book, which lots of people can’t see it as a textbook, is its simplicity, its proximity, its target to curiosity about human being, of comparisons with other life forms, of the relation between what we can send and our brain, and our brain with other life forms’ brain. And it shows in a very visually, graphically and very reachable with very neat infographics and animations. Texts related to the animals senses are concrete and easy to understand at the same time they connect with our own senses. In the same way imagery used in the book are very powerful, we can see the animals in their own ecosystem with a single click. Its neat style, which in addition to maintaining throughout the book, shows us the different information in a very similar way, provides extremely easy-to-understand interactive infographics, created with a neat style. Definitely, a very interesting option as an interactive digital iBook, a interesting sample based in the knowledge from curiosity, a book pupils can access about the senses in human body and how we use them in our environment. — Manel Rives (Spain) Spanish K12 teacher, mLearning & BPL expert. iOS & Mass Media expert for education. ICT consultant & teacher for the Iberoamerican States Organization.
These books also contain appealing interactive modules that allow the spectacular visualisation of what happens in nature. For example, in the iBook “The Senses” you will have the chance to observe and interact with sounds. Some interactives show how the ear works when listening different types of sounds, and how the vibrations in our ear change when the sounds are different. This is something I have never had the chance to see in a tangible way before. Also, at the end of each sense chapter, the iBook shows what we usually forget to study, how senses work in other species, and what particularities some animals have in each sense. This additional information generates empathy between species, by being able to understand how other species perceive the world. The Origins”, which is a brief history of the Earth. With extraordinary graphics, gorgeous pictures and easy-to-understand descriptions, the iBook is a journey through millions and millions of years from the Big Bang to our time on Earth. Doubtlessly a journey every kid would love to enjoy. — Jesús “Chewie” Hernández (México) Apple Distinguished Educator, Consultor Educativo en Hevas Education. The Senses: The Senses is a beautifully illustrated book about our 5 senses set up in 5 chapters of vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste. The book is very intuitive and fascinating to read… not just for students but for teachers, parents and anyone who wants to learn about the senses. First off let me say this book is incredibly well designed. The pages are clean, the layout and structure of the content on each page are well organized and clean as well. The images chosen are relevant and help reinforce the concepts being introduced on each page. The structure of each individual chapter is consistent with the previous chapter giving the reader a similar experience as they move through the senses The inter active widgets hidden by hot spots are also incredibly clean and very informational. Readers will love interacting with this book. — Anthony DiLaura (USA) Apple Distinguished Educator, Instructional Technology Specialist Zeeland Public Schools
I have recently downloaded two iBooks by Imaxina Novas Tecnoloxías, The Senses; and Natural History. What a delight these two iBooks are - they are two of the most well designed, beautifully presented textbooks that make complete use of the innovative iBooks format. I am a teacher and coordinator at a school for children with autism, and I am always eager to find resources that maximise the visual engagement of our students. Students with autism are primarily visual learners, and it has always been a challenge to find suitable resources that are tailored to their visual processing strengths, while also being interactive and explicit with regards to the content to be presented. Both The Senses and Natural History achieve this through the visual of big, high resolution graphics that expand and dissect in an intuitive, interactive manner to explain the scientific concepts within. I can see our classes getting a lot out of these texts in the future, and I am very eager to investigate future iBooks in the series. — Craig Smith (Australia) Apple Distingushed Educator, Area Man, Autism Teacher, Book Writer, PhD Candidate.
The book explores the 5 senses which as we know are vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Through incredible interactive features the reader is transported in a magical world where you can explore how sight works with incredible animations as well as how the brain works and even test your own hearing in the hearing section. It only takes 60 pages to get through the book but with all the little hidden features it guarantees hours of fun. As well as looking at the senses that humans have the book also explores the animal world and everyone knows how much I like animals so that was a definite seller for me. My favorite pages were 8, 13 and 26 but I am not spoiling the surprises you will have to discover why yourself! I would recommend this to all k12, primary and secondary teachers as well as parents. Although as an IT teacher I am far from either of those I really found this book to be a lot of fun and will be recommending it to everyone I know. — Miriam Walsh (Ireland) Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Ed Certified, Further Ed Teacher and iTunes U content creator.
